VINTAGE GIBSON SG STANDARD This
is my genuine (pre CMI + ECL = NORLIN period) vintage Gibson SG for sale, I've used this instrument for recording
purposes only, the SG never left the studio, it has never been on the
stage, never touched by any other person but me and is in original condition, instrument rates as COLLECTOR'S ITEM and is in MUSEUM QUALITY, frets show no wear at all, there
are no cracks on the body or neck, no sign of abuse, just one or two very minor marks on the body resulting from normal use which can only be seen if one looks very carefully. Sound is as expected, typical vintage humbucker,
very fat indeed, if need to be described, best fit would be a viola amidst violins! Any standard hollow or solid body Gibson guitar with binding on body and neck looks great yet on those models such as the SG, binding on the neck alone makes the instrument look somewhat ridiculous, it simply doesn't fit into the smooth design of the SG and arouses the question whether the neck was borrowed from another Gibson model and/or not designed specifically with the new SG in mind. This indeed was the case, those necks came from the pre 60's Les Paul series which had binding on the guitar body! Thus, I had my Gibson SG custom built, it was ordered in mid 1969 yet couldn't be picked up until late1971, this guitar is fitted with the 57's hand wound pickups which deliver extremely deep and rich sound, one piece mahagony body with dark cherry nitrocellulose finish (this is extremely important for the wood to breathe and age properly over the years, result will be a high grade instrument) the famed Bigsby vibrato tailpiece and the classic slim-taper neck with ebony fingerboard and block pearl inlays, though definitely UNBOUND as it should be! It's a well known secret that Gibson made a mess of serial numbers, it's sheer impossible to date an instrument correctly, in Gibson's over 50 years of history in manufacturing fine instruments, the same serial numbers were used repeatedly, sometimes up to seven times! There are several methods of dating vintage instruments such as checking the various body designs, head stocks and necks and Gibson logo typography but none seem to be leading to correct results! Serial number on my guitar (300782) points out to a production date of somewhere between 1965 through 1968 but I know this to be incorrect. Everything about this guitar is original, I doubt if there's a second Gibson SG on the whole planet like this unique instrument, I've never stumbled upon one, never heard of such a guitar model on Gibson's very own "Custom, Art & Historic Division" or seen pics of one on any website at all, even Gibson's database doesn't list such a Gibson SG Standard, so looks as if this one is indeed one of a kind! If anyone has information on such an instrument, please drop me a line and maybe add a pic or two... In all these years the SG was stored in compliance to Gibson's long term storage regulations regarding humidity and temperature and thus my Gibson SG Standard has kept its first-day appearance and plays at its best, fat mellow sound, magnificent action without a hint of buzz. I'm the original and the only owner of Instrument. The SG comes with certificate of origin, vintage 23 page "owner's manual" and custom made hard case.
